This Week in NJ

***Thank you to everyone who came out to our monthly volunteer day at Skylands Animal Sanctuary. Our September volunteer group will meet up on the 4th and the 7th. To sign up or for more information, please check out the Facebook group.***

Anonymous for the Voiceless's Cube of Truth is a peaceful static demonstration akin to an art performance. Three demonstrations will be taking place this week. The first on will be this Wednesday in Asbury Park (a chapter that has been taken over by our very own head of Vegan in NJ, Cherise). The second will be Friday night in Montclair and the third one will be Saturday night in Seaside Heights. These demonstrations operate in a structured manner that triggers curiosity and interest from the public; they attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through a combination of local standard-practice animal exploitation footage and conversations with a value-based sales approach. Masks, signs, and outreach literature are provided. Black upper clothing appropriate for the weather is essential, and please bring a fully charged laptop or tablet if you have one. Interested volunteers should join this Facebook group for Asbury Park, this group for Montclair, and this group for Seaside Heights.

The Ethos Farm Monthly Speaker Days return this Saturday with special guest speaker Saray Stancic, M.D. and her presentation topic: Lifestyle Medicine; The Common Sense Solution to the Chronic Disease. Dr. Stancic is triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Lifestyle Medicine. She graduated from New Jersey Medical School in 1993 and after completing her fellowship, accepted the position as Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Hudson Valley VA in New York. In later years, she served as Translational Medical Leader at Roche Pharmaceuticals where she led clinical trials in the field of viral hepatitis while continuing to practice Infectious Diseases at the Bronx VA in NYC. In 2012, she left the work in Infectious Diseases to fully dedicate her time to the field of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Stancic's interest in Lifestyle Medicine is rooted in her personal story as a patient living with multiple sclerosis. This event is free to the public and sign ups can be found here.

Animal Connection will be organizing a trip to Skylands Animal Sanctuary this Saturday from NYC. Transport out of the city in a luxury bus with high back reclining seats, DVD/CD players with drop down televisions where there will be a film screening. The bus departs NYC at 10:30 and is scheduled to return by 5:30. More information can be found here.

On Sunday, the 18th, Chilis on Wheels will be providing plant based meals to those in need in the New Brunswick area. These meals are provided every third Sunday of the month. They are also looking for volunteers to help and can be contacted at

New Jersey VegFest's final Asbury Park Vegan Pop Up of 2019 will take place this Sunday at Convention Hall. If you are still having those post Atlantic City Vegan Food Festival cravings, this is the event to scratch that itch. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door and can be purchased here. There will be a ton of the NJ VegFest all-star vendors there, such as The Baklava Lady, How Delish HD, Freakin' Vegan, Desired Dish, Yeah Dawg!, Gone Pie, and so many more, but don't sleep on the new to VegFest vendors like Cinnaholic, Green Chef, Hungry Like The Wolf, Lulu's Artisanal Lemonade (which is INCREDIBLE, by the way), etc. While you're there, don't forget to check out the Vegan Cook Book Swap, hosted by New Jersey Vegan!

Finally, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 5:00 and 6:00. If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at The Jersey City chapter meets at the Journal Square plaza at noon every Sunday. For donations, contact them via their Facebook page or at

Vegan in NJ events scheduled (*must be a member of the Facebook group to view private events):

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

We have started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up the tiers with more as time goes on, but for right now, you will get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future, early blog posts, discount codes for events, and random merch an whatever we've got that we can send you! This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be. Proceeds from our Patreon will be going to maintain the website, brand, and afford us to be able to hire on more awesome vegans to help us on our journey to make NJ a vegan wonderland!

Thank you to those who came here via the Try Vegan email blast! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can learn more about the Try Vegan empire via their meal delivery (use that link for a free meal!), their food truck, or their clothing line. They also now have an app in the App Store or on Google Play!
