This Week in NJ

**Our monthly Volunteer Day at Skylands Animal Sanctuary will take place this Saturday, 10/05. There is limited sign up space still available. Please check here for more information. We also have another volunteer day scheduled for the 26th and signups for that day can be found here. Must be a member of the Facebook group to view event.**

On Wednesday, please keep Animals First on the Second in mind. This is not an event to attend; rather a monthly day of reflection and remembrance. Each day, millions of farm animals are starved on their way to slaughter. On the second day of every month, fasting is encouraged in protest of the treatment of these sentient beings. Join us as we amplify the voices of the billions of farmed animals suffering around the world. You can find more information about this campaign here.

The Alliance to End Chickens as Kapros will be hosting a week long session of outreach and vigils starting Wednesday the 2nd in NYC. A full listing of action events can be found here. A peaceful protest of Kapros is also scheduled to take place in Lakewood on Saturday. More information on this protest can be found here.

The Ethos Farm Monthly Speaker Days return this Saturday the 5th with special guest speaker Colin Campbell, PhD. For decades T. Colin Campbell, PhD has been at the forefront of nutrition education and research. Dr. Campbell's expertise and scientific interests encompass relationships between diet and disease, particularly the causation of cancer. His legacy, the China Project, is one of the most comprehensive studies of health and nutrition ever conducted. The New York Times has recognized the study as the “Grand Prix of epidemiology”. Dr. Campbell is the coauthor of the bestselling book The China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health, and author of the New York Times bestseller Whole, and The Low-Carb Fraud. This event is free to the public and sign ups can be found here.

Anonymous for the Voiceless's Cube of Truth is a peaceful static demonstration akin to an art performance. Demonstrations will take place Saturday afternoon in Paterson and Sunday afternoon in NYC. These demonstrations operate in a structured manner that triggers curiosity and interest from the public; they attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through a combination of local standard-practice animal exploitation footage and conversations with a value-based sales approach. Masks, signs, and outreach literature are provided. Black upper clothing appropriate for the weather is essential, and please bring a fully charged laptop or tablet if you have one. Interested in volunteering? Join this group for Jersey City, and this group for NYC.

The Vegetarian Society of South Jersey (VSSJ) will be hosting a potluck on Saturday evening for members and non-members alike. Please check out the event page for more information on the potluck and how to become a member of their group.

NJVeg will be joining forces with Lady and the Shallot of Trenton for a 5 course vegan meal on Sunday. Tickets ($40 for members and $45 for non members) must be purchased online. $5 from each ticket purchased will be donated to Goats of Anarchy. No tickets will be available at the door. For more information and the full menu, please check out this link.

Finally, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 5:00 and 6:00. If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at The Jersey City chapter meets at the Journal Square plaza at noon every Sunday. If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

We have started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up the tiers with more as time goes on, but for right now, you will get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future, early blog posts, discount codes for events, and random merch an whatever we've got that we can send you! This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be. Proceeds from our Patreon will be going to maintain the website, brand, and afford us to be able to hire on more awesome vegans to help us on our journey to make NJ a vegan wonderland!
