This Week in NJ

Hope you guys are staying warm and dry out there!

Tuesday evening, Dr. Michael Greger will be speaking at Monmouth University. Hosted by Plants for Peace, his new talk "How Not to Diet" will be an hour long + a 15 min Q&A followed by a book signing/photo op. Tickets are free but are required for admission. They are available here.

On Saturday, December 21st at 6:00 PM, come see Honey LaBronx, The Vegan Drag Queen, host of Big Fat Vegan Radio, lip sync for her life as a fundraiser for Liberation NYC! This will all go down at Bar Nine 807 9th Avenue, in NYC. There is a $20 Suggested Donation at the door, but patrons are encouraged to pay whatever they can. Please note this is a 21+ event with explicit content and loud music and is not wheelchair accessible.

Anonymous for the Voiceless's Cube of Truth is a peaceful static demonstration akin to an art performance. Two demonstrations will take place on Saturday. One will be held in Red Bank (lead by our very own ViNJ owner, Cherise!) and the second will be in Lakewood. These demonstrations operate in a structured manner that triggers curiosity and interest from the public; they attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through a combination of local standard-practice animal exploitation footage and conversations with a value-based sales approach. Masks, signs, and outreach literature are provided. Black upper clothing appropriate for the weather is essential, and please bring a fully charged laptop or tablet if you have one. Interested in volunteering? Join this Facebook Group for Monmouth County (Red Bank), and this group for Ocean County (Lakewood). After the Lakewood Cube, there will be a group of carolers and educators for passerby. More info on that can be found here.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Join NJveg for a festive vegan holiday potluck and vegan bake sale to raise funds for a central NJ animal rescue or sanctuary to be voted on at the event. Contributions for the bake sale are welcome! Please note that a bake sale contribution is in addition to your potluck contribution. Please bring a non-dessert contribution for this potluck. Microwaves and a refrigerator are available. Let's tempt each other with some sweet treats for the animals! There is a nominal charge to cover the venue rental due at the door. NJveg Members: $3 / $8 family; Non-members: $6 / $15 family. Be green and bring your own reusable place settings for a discount of $1 per person / $3 per family. NJveg will have extras if needed as well. Please RSVP by 12/21 to NJveg.org/rsvp, NJveg.org@gmail.com, or 609-557-7077 (text/voice). VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for setup and cleanup, so if you can help with either or both please let us know when you RSVP.

Finally, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 3:00 and 4:00. If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at jerseyshorefoodnotbombs@yahoo.com. The Jersey City chapter meets at the Journal Square plaza at noon every Sunday. For donations, contact them via their Facebook page or at foodnotbombsjc@gmail.com.

Vegan in NJ events scheduled (*must be a member of the Facebook group to view private events):

4/19 5 Course Lunch at Lady and the Shallot (with NJveg)

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to Cherise at cherise@veganinnj.com and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in our weekly breakdown.

We have a Patreon page and would love it if you could donate any amount you could. You will get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future, early blog posts, discount codes for events, and random merch an whatever we've got that we can send you! This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be. Proceeds from our Patreon will be going to maintain the website, brand, and afford us to be able to hire on more awesome vegans to help us on our journey to make NJ a vegan wonderland! We also take some of the donations and donate it back to various vegan non-profits and NJ sanctuaries.

We have also added a 'support us' page, so if you want other ways (besides Patreon) to help us out, please check there. We appreciate anything you can do!
