I'm not gonna lie... As soon as I found out Turning Point added Just Egg and Beyond Breakfast Sausages to their menu, I sent them an email. 😆 Not only did they add vegan pancakes to their menus a couple years ago, but now we can get a full spread? I needed to know more, of course.
What I learned is that they've rolled out these vegan products to every single location. You can find a list of their locations here. Besides New Jersey, they are also in Pennsylvania and Delaware. All of my photos and experiences are from the Sea Girt location, btw, where the literal friendliest people ever work.
I'm not a coffee drinker (it makes me nauseous, don't @ me, you feral coffee people 🙃), but my guests were and there's quite a coffee selection at this place. I heard satisfied happiness about the regular coffee (the unlimited option), the Jersey Devil (which is a French Press option and a hella dark roast), and the iced coffee (paired with almond milk and had macadamia nuts and coconut notes). Speaking of almond milk, Turning Point offers almond, oat, and soy milk for their non-dairy options.
I started the meal with a Kale to the King cold pressed juice, which had spinach, apple, lemon, and kale. It was super refreshing and pretty much just tasted like apple juice. I can fully get behind hiding your greens and nutrients in apple juice! I also got a little greedy and ordered a Tropical Bliss Smoothie made with pineapple, bananas, strawberries, and orange juice. You see the ingredients. You already know this was awesome. 😋 I also stole a sip of an Annie's Lemonade (pink lemonade blended with strawberries) that my husband ordered and I have zero regrets.
We then proceeded to order pretty much every vegan offering to split between us all and honestly, we were pretty damn happy with every bit of it. Here's a run down of what's available and how you can order it:
Avocado Artisan Toast
The "King" Banana Toast (no honey, add maple syrup)
Hot Oatmeal with brown sugar (can add fruit for additional charge)
I Can't Believe They're Vegan Pancakes (comes with fruit)
Just Egg (can be subbed into any egg dish)
Beyond Breakfast Sausage (can be subbed for sausage or added to any dish)
All Cold Pressed Juices (can even order a flight!)
Tropical Bliss Smoothie
Annie's Lemonade
I was shocked at how much I liked the Avocado Artisan Toast. I was thinking, oh, it's just avocado toast. I knew it would be good, but I wasn't thinking it'd be fantastic. Not gonna lie, it was my favorite part of the meal. Not to say the rest wasn't good because it was. The avocado toast was just that good! I wasn't thrilled about The "King" Banana Toast, but after I added maple syrup, I became far more thrilled. I highly suggest you do that, too!
I was expecting boring oatmeal and yeah, compared to the rest of the meal, it was boring, but after adding in the brown sugar (or you could do maple syrup), fruit, and a side of almond milk, I was very happy! It's great to have a healthy option when you're trying not to eat a day's worth of calories as your first meal of the day. No judgement if you are trying to do that because I can absolutely relate and I know I went in on breakfast when I went.
Just Egg can be substituted into any of their egg dishes or skillets. I subbed the Traditional Eggs, which gave me Just Egg, Beyond Sausage, toasted english muffin, and a side of potatoes or greens. I opted for potatoes because you can't give me the option for potatoes and expect me not to. A genius idea from Tori, who had breakfast with us this day, was to make it a sandwich, so of course we did!
The pancakes hit the spot, too! They are filling, but still fluffy, and they just hit that breakfast craving so well. Especially with the fruit and covered in maple syrup - yes please!
I'm so glad Turning Point added these options to their menu because as good as we have it in New Jersey with vegan food (and we do have it pretty well - see our restaurant map!), a vegan breakfast isn't that common. We've got a few places, but wouldn't it be nice not to have to drive more than 45 minutes to get yourself some pancakes and vegan eggs?
I hope to see Turning Point's plant based menu further expand, but I'm loving what we've got so far! What's your favorite spot for vegan breakfast options? Drop them in a comment below!
Thank you for the review! Kind of odd though that for a “healthy” restaurant most of their food adds up to people over half of your calories for the day.
The banana toast is 990, add in a juice and you’re at 1,120 out of 2,000. Drink a smoothie instead and it’s 1,240. Get their frozen hot chocolate and you’re at 1,700.
The tropical waffles start out at 1,070 calories so with a juice or latte that leaves you only 780 for the rest of the day. Their chocolaty pancakes are 1,370 already so with a latte You’re at 1,550 out of 2,000. That’s close to Cheesecake Factory menu items.
