Vegan in NJ has started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up tiers as time goes on, but for right now, you will just get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future. This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be!
If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.
November 1st is World Vegan Day and day 1 of World Vegan Month. If you're on the edge about going vegan, give it a shot this month. Give yourself a 30 day vegan challenge! Join our Facebook group to find answers to many questions you probably have or check out websites like Challenge 22 (a 22 day challenge) or Veganuary (usually made for those trying to make their new year's resolution to go vegan, eat plant based, or live a more compassionate life). You can also use resources like those that Vegan Outreach or Mercy for Animals offers. Long story short, a vegan is a person who does not eat, purchase, or use any animal products or by products. We do not participate in any form of animal exploitation, such as zoos or aquariums. As far as diet goes, we eat plants! We do not eat meat, fish, dairy, eggs, or honey.
There will be a dance class hosted in Neptune Twp for World Vegan Day on Thursday. It's $15 at the door. Singles or couples are welcome. You can call 732-898–7111 and ask for Travis with any questions or for more information that is not available on the Facebook event.
Friday is the second of the month, which means Animals First on the Second is upon us again. If you've never heard of this, that's okay, now is a great time to start! We fast on the second of every month, mark an "x" inside a circle on our hands and the conversations will come to you. Learn more about what this all is and why this was started on the AFOTS website, including information on how to get started and participate.
Saturday, November 3 is International Cube Day for Anonymous for the Voiceless. There will be a TON of events happening on this day all over the world. We have several happening in our area, including Atlantic County, Monmouth County, New Brunswick, Philadelphia, and Long Island. Rutgers Veg Society has planned a day around the New Brunswick cube, so if you're in the area, meet them at the student activities center to carpool to Tamerlaine Animal Sanctuary for a tour, then grab some food at Veggie Heaven before heading back to set up the New Brunswick Cube of Truth.
Sunday, Crust and Crumble in Asbury Park is hosting an all vegan Fat Cat Fiesta. If you're not familiar with Crust and Crumble, they are a delicious pizzeria and restaurant that has a badass vegan menu that includes pizza, pasta, fat sandwiches (aka fat cats), and more. A $45 ticket gets you a free tie dye event t-shirt and access to an amazing vegan Fat Cat Bar. There will be live music, samples of beer and wine, and even a cat costume contest, so make sure to don your best cat apparel! All proceeds will be donated to Three Little Kittens rescue, which is a cat rescue out of Asbury Park. Three Little Kittens specializes in neonatal kittens that are 3 weeks of age or less. If you cannot attend this event, but are still interested in donating to Three Little Kittens, you can check out their donation page on their website.
At the Glassboro VFW, The Gentle Giant Cafe is hosting a fundraiser for Oasis Animal Sanctuary. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. They will be screening the documentary, The Last Pig (which is described in the event as "following the life of a pig farmer who grapples with death, searches for compassion and finds the courage to change."), and vegan Italian fare will be served. There will be a 50/50 drawing, silent auctions featuring artwork and gift baskets, and more!
Every Sunday, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 4:00 and 5:00. If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at email@example.com.
