This Week in NJ

Vegan in NJ has started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up tiers as time goes on, but for right now, you will just get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future. This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be!

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to cherise@veganinnj.com and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

Vegan in NJ is raising money through Crowdrise for Skylands Animal Sanctuary. You are also able to donate in person at the February 17 NJ VegFest vegan pop up in Asbury Park. We will have a table, where we will be signing people up for the 5k at the Atlantic City Vegan Food Festival in July (the reason for the fundraiser!) and hoping people join the Vegan in NJ team!

On January 29, McDonalds is giving away free bacon from 4-5pm and there will be a protest held at one of the Toms River locations, hosted by Susan of NJ Animal Save Movement. Please see the Facebook event for more information.

Newark Animal Save (a chapter of The Save Movement) will be hosting a vigil and outreach at the American Halal slaughterhouse on Raymond Blvd on Thursday morning. They will bear witness to the animals coming in for slaughter and give them their last moments of kindness before their lives are over. Before and after bearing witness, they will do outreach to the surrounding neighborhood and after will be a vigil, remembering the lives lost to American Halal.

As Veganuary comes to an end, EARTH (Environmentalist Animal Rights Team of Hoboken) is hosting a vegan cooking class at the ShopRite in Hoboken on Thursday. They will be showing you how to make dishes from the Veganuary website and then everyone can eat them after (or take them home). You can RSVP and keep up with more of their events by joining their Meetup.com group! This cooking class is a great way to extend your Veganuary or add new recipes into your repertoire.

Vegan Drinks (NYC) is back and hosting an event at Solas Bar on Thursday night with Marty V's Burgers as the food vendor! They will be fundraising for The Humane League and happy hour specials will run all night long!

Every second of the month is Animals First on the Second. If you've never heard of this, that's okay, now is a great time to start! We fast on the second of every month, mark an "x" inside a circle on our hands and the conversations will come to you. Learn more about what this all is and why this was started on the AFOTS website, including information on how to get started and participate.

Smorgasburg in NYC is hosting a vegan weekend market on both Saturday and Sunday. You can expect great things from vendors like Chickpea and Olive, Monk's Meats, Pho Cup, and more!

Dean's Natural Market currently has locations in Chester, Basking Ridge, Shrewsbury, and Ocean Twp, but they have their grand opening of their cafe in Metuchen on Saturday! The hot bar and grab and go at their market locations is fantastic and they really have so many vegan options that are incredibly delicious. You will be able to find that, their juice/smoothie bar and more at this new cafe! The ribbon cutting is at 8am and there will be free coffee and vegan pastries!

The Moth Coffeehouse is an all vegetarian spot in Allentown with many vegan options! NJveg will be meeting there for lunch on Saturday to try out their delicious food and make some friends. They host many meetups and outreach events that you can always find listed on their calendar. We're co-hosting the lunch at Lady and the Shallot with them on March 3!

Inspirationally Dished is new on the scene and starting it off with a bang and a delicious sounding vegan cuisine tasting event on Saturday. It's a 6 course meal that is paired with different wines (vegan, of course!) in Mays Landing. This event recently sold out, but make sure you're keeping an eye on our calendar and following Inspirationally Dished wherever you can!

Every Sunday, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 3:00 and 4:00. If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at jerseyshorefoodnotbombs@yahoo.com. The Jersey City chapter meets at the Journal Square plaza at noon every Sunday. For donations, contact them via their Facebook page or at foodnotbombsjc@gmail.com.
