This Week in NJ

March 12, 2019

Woohoo! Daylight Savings Time and warmer weather are upon us! We are getting close and closer to beautiful Springtime and I cannot wait!

Not much going on (that we know of) during the week, but there are some activities this coming weekend that sound much more fun than running into a gang of angry leprechauns.

Friday, March 15, we here at Vegan in NJ are hosting a Tea Party with M&M Bakery! They have  recently added vegan items to their menu! We are celebrating with them by throwing a tea party style social event. $20 ($25 at the door) reserves your spot to snack on lots of amazing vegan treats, coffee and tea. Official menu will be posted soon, but know it includes donuts, zucchini bread, cookies, pecan pie bars, and more! BYOB. Tickets can be purchased here

NJVeg will be present at Mercer Green Fest this Saturday, the 16th at Rider University. They will answer questions and provide free literature on the benefits of a plant-based diet. They also are welcoming volunteers for this event; particularly needing help setting up (at 10:00 am) and packing up (to roughly 4:30 pm). There is no experience necessary. Come out for an hour or the entire event. Help spread the word that a plant-based diet saves animals, protects the environment, and improves your health! If you are interested in joining NJVeg's outreach team, please contact NJVeg.org@gmail.com or 609.557.7077.

Brooklynites (and those who want to cross those bridges and tunnels) are in for a treat this Saturday. Vegan Shop Up will be hosting their March Pop Up at Pine Box Rock Shop from Noon until 5:00. Discover the best locally made, vegan foods, goods, and more at NYC’s all vegan pop-up market!

New Jersey HipHop is Green will be hosting a showing of "The Invisible Vegan" at the Blue Print Cafe in Newark on Saturday night at  5:00. A vegan dinner buffet will be served, and tickets can be purchased here. This event is also BYOB and non vegans are encouraged to attend!

On Sunday, March 17th, Chilis on Wheels will be providing plant based meals to those in need in the New Brunswick area. They are also looking for volunteers to help. These meals are provided every third Sunday of the month.

Protest Canada Goose will be in action Sunday at the Short Hills Mall from Noon until 2:00. The group will be educating and bringing awareness to the public by handing out leaflets on the cruelty of how coats are made.

Finally, the Jersey Shore chapter of Food Not Bombs will be feeding those in need at the Asbury Park Train Station between 3:00 and 4:00.  If you want to donate something, contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing them at jerseyshorefoodnotbombs@yahoo.com.  The Jersey City chapter meets at the Journal Square plaza at noon every Sunday.  For donations, contact them via their Facebook page or at foodnotbombsjc@gmail.com.

Vegan in NJ  is raising money through Crowdrise for Skylands Animal Sanctuary.  We will be at A Weekend with Avenue's vegan market, where we will be accepting donations in person (and we have a discount code to sign up for the NJ VegFest 5k at the Atlantic City Vegan Food Festival in July - the reason for the fundraiser!).  We also have some new team members that can be found on our Crowdrise.  If you are interested in signing up for the 5k and donating/joining our team to fundraise, please send me an email for your discount code for the race and proof of donation/team sign up!  Proceeds from our apparel, which are available with our official design (thanks Lisette!) are available on Teespring!

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to cherise@veganinnj.com and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

We have started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could.  We will be working on setting up tiers as time goes on, but for right now, you will just get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future.  This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be.  Proceeds from our Patreon will be going to maintain the website, brand, and afford us to be able to hire on more awesome vegans to help us on our journey to make NJ a vegan wonderland!

Thank you to those who came here via the Try Vegan email blast!  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can learn more about the Try Vegan empire via their meal delivery (use that link for a free meal!), their food truck, or their clothing line.  They also now have an app in the App Store or on Google Play!
