This Week in NJ

The New York Climate Save Movement kicks off their Week of Strikes on Friday the 20th. The goal is to join in solidarity with other groups demanding action for our planet Earth. Friday's strike will be a Global Climate Strike. On September 20, three days before the UN Climate Summit in NYC and on the two year anniversary of Hurricane Maria, young people and adults will strike all across the US and the world to demand transformative action to address the climate crisis. Millions of us will take to the streets globally to demand justice for our present and a right to a future. In New York, there will be march and rally to demand real action by our elected officials and world leaders. The strike will start at Foley Square and then take to the streets to march to Battery Park. The event will conclude with speakers and performers, including Fridays For Future movement starter Greta Thunberg and NY-based youth leaders. There will also be a joint effort with New Jersey Climate Save Movement for a clean up of Conant Park in Hillside on Saturday.

Anonymous for the Voiceless's Cube of Truth is a peaceful static demonstration akin to an art performance. A demonstration will take place Friday evening on the Asbury Park boardwalk. These demonstrations operate in a structured manner that triggers curiosity and interest from the public; they attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through a combination of local standard-practice animal exploitation footage and conversations with a value-based sales approach. Masks, signs, and outreach literature are provided. Black upper clothing appropriate for the weather is essential, and please bring a fully charged laptop or tablet if you have one. Interested in volunteering? Join this Facebook group for the Monmouth County chapter, where Vegan in NJ founder, Cherise, is one of the organizers!

NJVeg will be doing vegan outreach at the Berkley Heights Vegan Fest on Saturday and Sunday and Arts in the Park in Highland Park on Sunday. Volunteers will answer questions and provide free literature on the benefits of a plant-based diet. They are in need volunteers for this and other outreach. Come out for an hour, or the entire event. Help spread the word that a plant-based diet saves animals, protects the environment, and improves your health! No experience is necessary. They particularly need help setting up (at 10am) and packing up (to about 5:30pm). If you're interested in joining NJveg's outreach team, please contact us at NJveg.org@gmail.com or 609.557.7077.

The first Mercer County Vegan Pop-Up Shop hosted by Earthways Plant Based Living will take place this Saturday at the Trenton Conservatory Mansion! The event will feature music, food, a variety of vegan vendors, and a free cocktail hour from 11-12, sponsored by Glen Roc Liquors, as well as free Coffee and Water. Come early for the free drinks, stay late for the amazing vendors, banging beats, fun and excitement. There is an awesome lis of vendors, including Cinnaholic, VBQ Philly, Hempworx, Lady & the Shallot and more! Tickets are available here and at the door. You can catch some of the Vegan in NJ crew at the Skylands Animal Sanctuary table, so make sure to say hi!

There will be a Rally for All Wildlife in Paramus on Saturday. This rally will take place along Route 17, in front of the Paramus Municipal Building on 1 Carlough Drive. Are you outraged that black bears cannot live in peace in our state? Are you infuriated that deer are victim to bow hunting in our community? Are you incensed that beavers and other fur bearing animals in our state are being caught and killed in cruel traps? Does the policy of gassing geese horrify you? Now is the time to raise your voice against the cruel killing policies that victimize bears, deer, beavers, and other gentle animals.

Join New Jersey Hip Hop is Green for their second annual summer cookout fundraiser in Newark! There will be scrumptious vegan food, great music and hip hop artists and an amazing panel who will excite and inspire. Click the event link for tickets and make sure to reserve you spot ASAP! They are also looking for volunteers to help with the event, if interested, please reach out.

If you are hosting an event or know of an event happening that you do not see on our events page, please send an email to cherise@veganinnj.com and I'll add it to the page ASAP and include it in my weekly breakdown.

We have started a Patreon page and we would love it if you could donate any amount you could. We will be working on setting up the tiers with more as time goes on, but for right now, you will get access to our feed, where we will be working through ideas and events we plan to host in the future, early blog posts, discount codes for events, and random merch an whatever we've got that we can send you! This will be a great place for you to have your voice heard about how we can make NJ the most vegan friendly place it can be. Proceeds from our Patreon will be going to maintain the website, brand, and afford us to be able to hire on more awesome vegans to help us on our journey to make NJ a vegan wonderland!
